Twice this week I have heard messages on Joshua chapter 4 about "memorial stones". After God had miraculously parted the Jordan River, allowing the Israelites to pass through on dry ground to the Promised Land, God tells Joshua to have 12 men each take a stone from the middle of the river. Then they were to lay them down on the land (eventually Joshua set them up at Gilgal), "that this may be a sign among you. When your children ask in time to come, "What do those stones mean to you?" then you shall tell them that the waters of the Jordan were cut off before the ark of the covenant of the LORD. When it passed over the Jordan, the waters of the Jordan were cut off. So these stones shall be to the people of Israel a memorial forever." (vs 6-7)
My purpose for this blog is to lay out "memorial stones".
-For my children - First and foremost to see God's hand in their lives. Then, to be a running record of what things we have done, books we have read, etc.
-For myself - I need a written record. If Israel needed a memorial about God parting the Jordan River, I surely need a memorial for all of the day-to-day things I don't want to forget.
-For family near and far - who want to see what it is we do!
So, here we go!
