Weekly Review - Turning 30

In Our Home:
This week was such a blast!  On Saturday (yes, technically last week) I went to our homeschool co-op's used book sale.  Oh, it was so much fun!  I was able to get some wonderful books that have been on my curriculum wish-list for great prices as well as a few other books just for fun.  In fact, I got a book I have had on my Amazon wishlist for quite awhile, and Miss R and I decided it was God's birthday gift to me.  =)
On Sunday, my mom had a birthday.  We celebrated with pizza and a Culver's turtle custard cake.  Yummy!
On Monday I turned 30.  Yep.  So there it is.  ;)  I don't mind being 30 as much as I mind how fast life is going.  And my dad said it just gets faster each year.  Phew!  This summer our Bible study group at church is meeting at various local parks for fun and fellowship once a week.  The first meet-up just happened to be on my birthday.  So I got to celebrate with some of my favorite people!  It was such a joy and I felt so blessed to know each one in our group.
On Tuesday Miss R went to her first private piano lesson.   Group lessons are only during the school year, so we are trying out private lessons for the summer.  She has the same teacher she had for group lessons.
On Wednesday the girls had a dentist appointment and both are in the "No Cavities Club".  I do have to say to anyone working with children: Please do not believe everything they tell you! (Or judge their parents by what they say!)  Miss R told the dental hygienist:  "This is the first day I have ever worn shorts."  (????)  And Miss O was telling her dental hygienist very random, unconnected thoughts. Rapunzel here, our kitty there, a little about Baby G, all sort of mixed together. Her thoughts made sense to me, but without a context to put them in, I can only imagine what the poor lady thought! (Oh, and I always picture dentists as old men...the girls' dentist was a nice looking young lady...my first thought was, "Is she old enough to be a dentist?" followed by, "Yes, she is. You're just not as young as you used to be!  Get over it!" =) )
On Thursday we had a "macnic" (that's Mr. N talk for "picnic") with our neighbor friends at a local park. I just love summer!

In Our Homeschool:
I picked up some Rod and Staff workbooks for Miss O at the Used Book Sale.  She loves them.  I know that workbooks are not very Charlotte Mason of me, but I do have to say, Charlotte Mason was not a mother.  She was an educator.  So, she didn't have to teach her school age child along with a preschooler, a toddler, and a baby in tow.   Miss O has begged me to work on her workbooks.  It really takes 5, maybe 10 minutes a day.  But she loves it.  And it gives her something to do when I am working with her big sister.  She has worked on coloring, cutting, and matching this week.  She also has worked on coloring a page in her Bible coloring book that corresponds with the Bible story.
Miss R and I had another gentle week.  Since it's summer, my goals are to focus on (daily) Bible, character, the Three R's, and literature, and then rotate History/Science/Nature Study if time allows.  Anything else will be great if we can do it, but nothing to stress over.  We found this week that she does math a lot better in the mornings, so math will be in the morning, and the rest will be during the little ones' naptime - a few days a week...just enough to keep going.
So far I'm very pleased with our book choices for Miss R this year.  We're still trying to finish The Wind in the Willows.  She loves it.  I don't know what my issue is...I like it when we read it, but I'm just not excited about it.  After we finish, the plan is to start Pilgrim's Progress.  I can't wait!  Maybe next week?
